A bookplate is also known as an ex-libris plate, which means “from books” in latin. It’s small, usually with artistic graphics, stuckin the book at the beginning, reminding of the character of the owner, and is quite a collector’s item today. Bookplates are supposedly older than typography. The most important artists of history made them – in the Czech Republic this included, for example, Josef Manes, Alfons Mucha, Max Svabinsky, Frantisek Kupka, Vojtech Preissig, Mikolas Ales… Would you like to have your own personal bookplates?
