Regularly, over the course of several, years Tomas Makaj and I roamed the countryside of the Brdy woods, speaking to eyewitnesses about ghosts and mysterious stories. We personally encountered some of them as well. Tomas made careful notes, and I drew ghosts in my notepad. (Pokračování textu…)
More about Vladimir Jiranek

On Wednesday I made a drawing to bid farewell to Mr Vladimir Jiranek for Aktualne.cz. My opinion on Jiranek’s work was quoted on the website IHNED.cz. Ivan Hanousek, a cartoon historian, spoke in a Radiozurnal broadcast, Bretislav Kovarik, head of the Czech cartoonists’ union, was on Czech Television, and so on.
Two new books before Christmas

I have finished the illustrations for two new books in a very short time. Both of them are based on legends and fairy tales, and both should be published in time to go under your Christmas tree, and give pleasure. I am naturally curious now which will come out first, and which of the publishing houses will pay me my royalty fees first :-)
Vladimir Jiranek – a legend amongst Czech cartoonists – has died

This photo was taken in 2007, when I shyly went for a signature, and he very kindly spoke wit me for a few minutes, humorously commenting on my crazy pseudonym, and we remembered a mutual friend.
My “cruel lady” has been massaging to the final of the Arnal competition

It’s surprising for me that my “Miss Masseuse” is among the best superwomen characters published in the catalogue of the second year of the Arnal competition. I was sure that two other pictures that fell somewhere under the table were better, but I am happy that I am among the finalists! I will probably publish my next two female characters on this blog in the near future. They will present an award to the winner of the last KomiksFEST! on Saturday 3rd November in the Bio Oko cinema.

On Thursday 1st November I will go to the Prague gallery, Langhans, for the opening of the exhibition “No Comment” – the best Czech and Slovak cartoons from the last year. I am represented by my drawing goodbye to Mr Vaclav Havel. The opening ceremony starts at 6 p.m., and at 7 p.m. they are showing the Danish film documentary “Bloody Cartoons” and a discussion with Fedor Vico, Ivan Hanousek, Miroslav Kemel, and Milos Cermak will follow. So come along everybody, it will definitely be interesting.
