The Third Book of Creative Trio Is Coming With Their Third Book of Bohemian Fairy Tales
[ 2010-11-26 ] Marketa Cekanova, Zdenek Zajicek and their preferred illustrator Vhrsti published Two Dozen Pilsner Fairy Tales and Legends in 2006, Half a Threescore Pilsen Region’s Fairy Tales and Legends in 2007 and now they are coming with Half a Threescore to a Threescore Fairy Tales and Legends from Bohemia. A new book with the white cover, after a red and a yellow one, thirty new stories and thirty full-page illustrations will be welcome to life on 28 November 2010 at 6:30 p.m. on occasion of lighting up the Christmas tree at the Pilsen main Square of Republic. The second welcoming ceremony will take place at the same square on occasion of Christmas carol-singing on 15 December 2010.
Emmanuel Guibert in Pilsen
[ 2010-11-01 ] One of the famous European comics authors Emmanuel Guibert is coming to Pilsen on Friday November 5. He is going to talk to Vhrsti on the Czech Radio Pilsen broadcast before noon and he is meeting students of the Institute of Art and Design at 1 p. m. Guibert is the author of the valued trilogy Alan´s war which takes place partly in Pilsen. His book The Photographer was awarded the „comics Oscar“ Will Eisner Comics Industry Award in the United States this year.
New Anthology of Generation Zero
[ 2010-10-26 ] A representative book showing the strongest contemporary generation of Czech comics creators was published after the exhibition catalogue from the year 2007. Anthology named Generation Zero – Czech Comics from 2000 to 2010 is a selection of the best short comics stories of the Czech Republic in the latest decade. Vhrsti is presented by his comic Milkman from the year 2003.
Vhrsti Will Be a Jubilee Celebrity on the Chat Kultura21.cz
[ 2010-10-12 ] Independent internet magazine Kultura21.cz will welcome the jubilee 50th celebrity on Monday 18 October. Pilsen illustrator, writer and scenarist Vhrsti will answer questions in a moderate discussion on the chat starting at 8 p. m. Readers of this web portal know Vhrsti´s comic series Snow Foss published on Mondays.
Vhrsti Participated in a New Interactive Nature Trail for Children
[ 2010-09-20 ] A funny character of squirrel shows children around a newly open interactive nature trail in the Pilsen forest park Homolka. Its author – as well as other illustrations and design of the boards – is Vhrsti. Children can learn interesting things about trees, plants, animals and history of Homolka water tank. On a squirrel meter, they can find out how tall they are or if their jump is longer than the jump of a hare, a red deer or a kangaroo. Children can also play the wood xylophone or run slalom. The author of the project and texts is Martina Kovarikova from Pilsen Public Asset Management. Homolka was founded in 19th century and nowadays it is the second largest forest park in Pilsen.
Vhrsti Will Draw with the Famous European Cartoonists in the Czech Town Pisek
[ 2010-08-30 ] Posters and cards with snails´ houses for Charlie Chaplin, Bill Gates, Walt Disney or Julius Caesar created by the member of the Czech Cartoonists´ Union Vhrsti and the participant of the third year of the biennial Cartoon Meeting Point in the Czech Town Pisek (September 3-5, 2010) invite us for this interesting event. Fourteen famous cartoonists from eight European countries will draw for public on Saturday afternoon (2:30 p.m., Sladovna). If you would like to stay in touch with the works of the cartoonists, you can see the exhibition in the Nizke tramy hall (from September 4 to 26). Meeting Point is prepared by the Czech Cartoonists´ Union and the Town of Pisek.
Magnetic Mobile Phone by Vojtech Steklac Has Come out
[ 2010-08-03 ] After six months a new boys ´ book written by Vojtech Steklac and illustrated by Vhrsti has come to the bookshops. Hellclass & Magnetic Mobile Phone is a sequel of the book Hellclass & Golden Credit Card. A story about Borik, Mirek, Ales and Cenda who spend their holiday in Holesovice docks is full of detective adventures. Schoolmates girls Palhounova and Teckertova try to penetrate boyish world and take control of their place. Will the young detectives be successful and what about girls´ graces? A new book from the complete series about Borik and his friends will give you the answer.
Current Issue of Stripburger with Vhrsti´s Comics Again
[ 2010-06-30 ] Six months after the 52nd issue of the iconic Slovenian comics magazine Stripburger devoted to Czech comics, a new issue comes out with 2 comics by Vhrsti. You can read stories Most Probably I’m Dead and The End of the World as well as a worldless comics Rubbleman by another Czech author Vojtech Domlatil.
Krystof Hadek, Vhrsti and Katerina Richterova Rescue an Ill Girl Joan
[ 2010-05-24 ] Czech writer Katerina Richterova wrote a suspenseful story with a strong environmental vertones Let´s Rescue Joan! for her small ill daughter. A magic adventure about children fighting against corrupt politicians for fresh air, clean water and comeback of manikin Leukas who was born in the Land at the Beginning of the World was published by the author herself. Thanks to her selflessness, the MP3 audiobook has no competition. Krystof Hadek – Czech Lion Film Prize winner – narrated more than three hours divided into twenty-nine chapters. A cheerful spirit of the project was made by illustrator Vhrsti.
Discussion about Books with Vhrsti Will Take Place in Liberec
[ 2010-04-13 ] 8th Children Book Fair Trade will take place in Liberec on April 15. At 10 p.m., Mrs Jana Semelkova, the head of the XYZ Publishing House, and illustrator and writer Vhrsti will speak about popular books written by Vojtech Steklac. Two years ago the publishing house has decided to publish a complete story about Borik and his friends and Vhrsti has taken a scepter from a famous Czech illustrator Adolf Born. Three books with new pictures and covers have already been published- Bohousek & His Mates, Ales & His Mates and a new book called Hellclass & Golden Credit Card. In autumn 2010 you wil have the possibility to enjoy the fourth one book – Hellclass & Magnetic Mobile Phone that Vhrsti is illustrating nowadays.
The Czech Cartoonists´ Union celebrates the 20th Anniversary
[ 2010-04-01 ] The Czech Cartoonists´ Union celebrates 20 years of active life. On this occasion, they have prepared an exhibition showing the works of their 75 members. It is called „2cet“ and takes place in the reconstructed house of Malostranska Beseda in Prague. The majority of the authors (including Vhrsti) will attend the opening ceremony at 5 p. m. on April 6. If you are interested, you can buy the catalogue with the authors´ profiles and works. You can also enjoy the jubilee stickers made by Jiri Kostyr, Vaclav Linek and Vhrsti. The Czech Cartoonists´ Union is the only professional organisation in the Czech Republic connecting cartoonists and it is the member of Federation of Cartoonists Organisations (FECO).
Ales & His Mates Has Come
[ 2010-02-21 ] Next classic boys´ book written by Vojtech Steklac with new illustrations by Vhrsti has arrived at the bookshops counters. Ales & His Mates is another story of the complete series about Borik and his friends. A book – a new sequel of Hellclass & Golden Credit Card – called Hellclass & Magnetic Mobile Phone is planned for this year.
120 x 120 – Benefit Exhibition and Auction
[ 2010-02-02 ] An original exhibition is coming soon to the 66 Gallery in Prague (Konviktska street 30). There will be pieces of works prepared by dozens painters, cartoonists, photographers etc. in CD-cover format 120 x 120. The opening ceremony will start on Thursday 4 February at 7 p. m. Concerning the comics authors, you will enjoy 16 Czech artist´s works made by Dan Cerny, Dora Dutkova, Jiri Grus, Tomas Chlud, Branko Jelinek, Jaromir 99, Tomas Kucerovsky, Lucie Lomova, Vojtech Masek, Nikkarin, Michael Petrus, Jaromir Plachy, Vaclav Slajch, Karel Jerie, Pavel Cech and Vhrsti.
New Illustrations at Vhrsti.cz website
[ 2010-01-26 ] Section Books at Vhrsti´s official website has changed since the beginning of the week. You can degust new illustrations from the edition Complete Borik´s Episodes by XYZ Publishing House – Bohousek and his Mates and Hellclass – Golden Credit Card. If you are looking forward to the reissuing of the book Ales and His Mates, you can see some pieces of Vhrsti´s work before their publishing in February. Except this, you can also see the cover of the Cookbook of Pilsen Ghosts. We also recommend you not only current news but also some original older pictures which are presented at Vhrsti´s artblog.
Once More about the National Library of the Czech Republic
[ 2010-01-18 ] Foreign journalist are still interested in the scramble for the National Library of the Czech Republic. A few days ago, the news server France 24 published an article with a title Prague „blob“ doomed? (in French Le „Blob“ de Prague condamné?). Its author Andres Bermudez Lievano asked some illustrators including Vhrsti for accompanying pictures. You can also see this picture at Vhrsti´s blog where he argued for Kaplicky´s Library in wild public discussion in autumn 2007.
Painted Fairy-tales in Museum of Ghosts
[ 2010-01-13 ] Museum of Ghosts (Pilsen, Czech Republic) hosts Fairy-tale Saturdays. This year children can meet Vhrsti on this occasion. He will tell and draw in his Painted Fairy-tales performance on January 16, February 20 and March 13. The shows start at 3 p.m.
