Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

Pilsen Calendar in Vhrsti´s Manner Again

Traditional Pilsen Calendar with a subtitle Amusement Reading for Every Month presented 12 Vhrsti´s fairy tales in 2008. Pro Libris Community has prepared Pilsen Calendar for the year 2012 with stories by writers from Ason-Club and illustrated by Vhrsti. Pilsen Calendar 2012 was invited to its life in pilsen library on November 30.

The Secret of Snowflakes

Through the Pro Libris Publishing House The Municipal Library of Pilsen was printing a fairytale by Vhrsti The Secret of Snowflakes. Vhrsti is the writer, illustrator and graphic designer in this case. A Book which is not for sale will be distributed as the first reading for children during a ceremony prepared by the library every year. A fairytale about the highest prefab in the world, about a writer, two shrewish but good-hearted angels but especially about the first snowfall in the world was as well adapted for informal stage by Lenka Vackova, Tomas Jeres and Vhrsti and was presented during authorial programme a few years ago.

Life Stories of the 20th Century in the Bookshops

Unique comic book We are Still at War – Life Stories of the 20th Century comes to the bookshops now. It was published by Argo Publishing House, Post Bellum Community and the Institute for the Study of Totalitarian Regimes. At the back cover you can read: Three scenarists. Thirteen top Czech and Slovak artists. Thirteen comics painted the real life stories from the second world war, holocaust, gulags and totalitarianism. A 180-pages book costs 345 CZK. Vhrsti wrote and drew life story of Mr Leopold Färber – a boy scout from Boskovice Town.

Vhrsti has Become a Member of the Czech Cartoonists´ Union Management

Vhrsti has become a member of the presidium in the Czech Cartoonists´ Union on its Saturday membership meeting. This organisation is the only one profession organisation which associates cartoonists in the Czech Republic. Its members are for example Jiri Sliva, Miroslav Bartak and Vladimir Rencin. Vhrsti has been a member since 2005. Mr Bretislav Kovarik still remains the head of the Union.

Hurvinek´s Stories in MF Dnes Newspaper

On Saturday 29 October, a comics called Hurvinek´s Stories was published in MF Dnes newspaper. It´s an extract from a very strong life story of Mr Leopold Färber, a boy scout from Boskovice, who was in an anti-Nazi group from his 16. All story has 10 pages and is published in the book We are Still at War and will be possible to buy in Czech bookshops in a few days.

We Are Still at War

Welcome party for a special comic book We are still at War – Life Stories of the 20th Century prepared by Argo Publishing House will take place in the Prague MeetFactory on 29th October at 5 p.m. during the first comics Saturday of the KomiksFEST! Thirteen Czech and Slovak comic artists composed history of thirteen ordinary people who had to be extra brave in the confrontation with totalitarian systems of the last century – fascistic or communistic. Vhrsti wrote and drew the life story of Mr Leopold Färber under the title Hurvinek’s stories.

No Comment in Prague
[ 2011-10-24 ]
No Comment – an exhibition of Czech and Slovak cartoonists – will take place in Prague from 26th October 2011 during the Month of the Czech and Slovak Cultural Cooperation. You can see cartoons for example by Miroslav Kemel, Shooty, Fedor Vico, Jozef Danglar and Vhrsti. The opening ceremony under the patronage of the Czech minister of culture Mr Jiri Besser will start on Wednesday 26th October 2011 at 6 p. m. in Tyn´s Literary Cafe. The best works from the 7th year of competition „Newspaper Award 2010“ were first presented in Bratislava in spring 2010.

The Best 33 Czech Cartoonists

Exhibition named The Best 33 Czech Cartoonists and prepared by Laco Torma from the Czech Cartoonists´ Union took place at Kremnice Gags – the 31st European festival of humour and satire. Slovakian audience could see Vhrsti´s work again.

Vhrsti on the Pisek Biennial as usual

The best cartoons exhibition of the 9th international biennial of cartoons in Pisek is possible to be seen in Sladovna exhibition room. The professional jury has chosen 942 cartoons by 281 cartoonists (including Vhrsti) from 57 countries and 5 continents. The exhibition will take place in Pisek till 26th October. One year ago Vhrsti was one of the guests of the international event Cartoon Meeting Point.

Comic Stories from the Czech History Coming in Saturdays Newspaper

Life stories of the second world war and totalitarianism eyewitnesses are going to be published in Saturdays newspaper MF Dnes from today. Stories about people in the second world war, holocaust, gulags and totalitarianism were collected by documentarists from the citizens‘ association Post Bellum. Comics drawn by 1O Czech artists including Vhrsti will be published till November 19. A Comic book Life Stories of the 20th Century will be published in November. The Authors of the project believe that comics book could be interesting for the generation from 15 to 35. Czech radio – Radio Cesko has broadcasted documentary series with the same name but its listeners are older.

Pilsen – City of Beautiful Books

Municipal Library of Pilsen celebrates 135 anniversary and that is why they gave themselves a gift. They prepared an exhibition Pilsen – City of Beautiful Books that takes place in the City Hall from 8 to 26th August 2011. Vhrsti, a regular author of the magazine Pilsen Literary Life and a long-time co-worker of the Municipal Library of Pilsen, is presented as an illustrator and writer of the children books and comics author. If you want, you can see valued bibliophile works by Vhrsti´s father Stanislav Jurik (1948-1993) as well.

Vhrsti in Stripburger Again

In the famous European magazine for independent comic Stripburger, there is written in the editorial of the 55th issue: „We’re happy to have with us again the Czech author Vhrsti and his thoughtful little man.“ Editors chose 2 comics – What I Haven’t Done Today and I’m Firm from the Vhrsti´s autobiographical series. You can read comics especially by Slovenian and Brazilian authors. Vhrsti is the only Czech artist in this issue.

Golden Stripe for Generation Zero

IBBY´s Czech department, Czech children illustrators´ club, Czech writers´ community and Czech translators´ community awarded the anthology Generation Zero – Czech Comics from 2000 to 2010 Golden Stripe. The book which included Vhrsti´s comic Milkman was appreciated as the most important publisher feat. The father of the project idea is a respected comic´s theorist and publisher Tomas Prokupek.

No Comment – Vhrsti in Bratislava, Slovakia

The best pieces of works from the 7th year of competition Newspaper Award 2010 for cartoonists and photographs are presented from 20th April till 31st May in Bratislava, Slovakia. Vhrsti was not awarded this price but his illustrations published on the blog Aktualne.cz were chosen for the exhibition named No Comment where you can also see the best awarded Czech and Slovak comics and cartoons by the winner of this year Miroslav Kemel, Shooty, Fedor Vico and Jozef Danglar Gertli. The exhibition will be moved to Prague in June.

Holiday School

Czech Publishing House Pierot contacted Vhrsti to cooperate with them on one of their most favourite exercise books called Holiday School. Vhrsti illustrated the exercise book Holiday School for the second class which is coming out now. A Publication full of tasks from the Czech language, maths and natural sciences is a good help for revision during summer holiday.

Double-locked Vhrsti

Among 53 West Bohemian writers‘ works in the anthology Double-lock, first presented in February 11 in Pilsen Mestanska beseda, there is one Vhrsti´s story as well. Vhrsti published an excerpt from Michael Jackson on Prescription a typical story meant for adult readers. Vladimir Novotny and Vladimir Gardavsky are the book editors.

The 10th issue of Aargh! with alternative comics from Vhrsti

European comics anthology Aargh! #10 was presented on January 24 in Goethe Institut in Prague. For the first time there are two covers (Mawil, Slajch). Vhrsti drew his comics on the last page of the cover. It´s important what cover you choose. You can read comics about a philosophized Football player in „Mawil’s Aargh!“ and the back cover of „Slajch’s Aargh!“ offers a comics What I haven’t done today.
