The name Vhrsti is as original as the pictures created by Vojta Jurík. It was an honour for me to co-operate with him. His pictures are part of my book “The Cookbook of Pilsen Ghosts” where he helps to create a “spooky” atmosphere. I write “spooky” in speech marks because his ghosts are pleasant, gentle, clean, cultivated, and you would like to chat with them. They are just the kind that children love. And because “The Cookbook of Pilsen Ghosts” is a children’s book, Vhrsti pictures are an excellent complement. Co-operation with Vojta (Vhrsti) was great. It’s not often that you can meet such  understanding, helpfulness, and willingness in combination with a young and capable artist who hasn’t let fame go to his head.

Vojtěch Jurík, alias Vhrsti, as well as having indisputable artistic qualities, is a 100% dependable professional, and it’s a pleasure to co-operate with him. He is communicative, listens well, and was able to transform my idea onto paper, was able to understand my comments, through which I wanted to feel inward harmony and balance. He kept to all deadlines and agreements. Apart from this, he is a modest, sensitive, and open man, shining with inner warmth, just like his pictures.“Let’´s Rescue Joan!” was awarded the second prize in the literary competition by the Book Club, and was recommended for publishing, but because of restrictions in the publishing house, and because of the financial crisis it wasn’t  published, I decided to publish it as an MP3 CD myself. I asked an acquaintance from the architecture magazine for some names. He sent me six, and from first glanc it was a clear decision. We met with Mr Jurík (Vhrsti) only once, the rest of our communication was via e-mails and telephone calls. About 400 copies of the of audiobook “Let’s Rescue Joan!” were sold without official distribution, and with a minimal promotion to date. I think that’s a success.

It is a honour for me to know Vhrsti personally. When somebody comes across his original style, he or she is able to recognize him among all authors, and “I’m Not Afraid of the Dark Any More”. When he started as a freelancer, Bodie and Doyle finished. A long list of professions, such as writer, illustrator, cartoonist, comic artist, and scriptwriter still isn’t enough to encompass his artistic, literary, graphic, humourous, and production talents. Whenever I come across his positive, amiable, and funny pictures and books I feel like I am “On Holiday in Heaven”. I couldn´t understand how he could still be so modest and responsive, when he is so talented. If I were the author of the draft for the most humorous part of the beginning of the XXX. Summer Olympic Games in London, thanks to a  clip with Daniel Craig which was filmed by Danny Boyle, and “The White Lady Au-pair”, my nose would grow, and would be bigger than in the case of Radouš. So do not hesitate to approach Vhrsti, for example when you need original wedding invitations, a fairy tale character as a plush toy, or a comics character who gets up every day and goes to work instead of you… And a small tip those of you thinking about performing a good deed and at the same time saving on your income tax:  go to paint the children’s wards in hospitals with Vhrsti pictures. And not only for the children… after that, everybody will be healthy, and the doctors could spend more time discovering “The Secret of Snowflakes” instead of diagnosing.

The Municipal Library of Pilsen has been co-operating with Vojtěch Jurík (Vhrsti) for exactly ten years. He is exceptional both as a man and as a professional. Positive, empathic, and modest, with an intelligent sense of humour, and with a natural sense for art conception and text. He was always our partner during the realizations of our projects – he was able to realize our vision and develop it in a creative way. If we add original style, pleasant behaviour ,and absolute reliability to these terms – what more could you want?

Vojta, alias Vhrsti, is a true professional. His original speech enchanted us. His attitude to his work is resoundingly professional, creative, positive, and open. We co-operate on posters, logos, illustrations, etc. Vojta made all of the illustrations for our Museum of Ghosts and Fairy Tales in Pilsen, including logos, pictures, memory cards, and colouring books. He prepared the graphic designs for CDs and illustrations of our books “Two Dozen Pilsen Fairy Tales” and “Legends, Half a Threescore – Pilsen Region’s Fairy Tales” and “Legends and Half a Threescore to a Threescore of Fairy Tales and Legends from Bohemia”. We can also mention the “Pocket Fairy Tales” range, as well as other products in the e-shop at www.muzeumstrasidel.cz. All products made with Vojta have terrific sales. I can only recommend co-operation with this professional.

Mr Jurík (Vhrsti) published 2 books through the Mlada Fronta Publishing House, and the third is currently being prepared. I appreciate his professionalism, fair play, flexibility, and most especially his human approach – he doesn’t work in the style of “order/realization/finance”, he is more orientated towards the project, and has a close emotional relationship with his work. This is the way it should be. I warmly recommend him.
